DescriptionAnnie Swain.."I visited Haast on two Canterbury Show Weekend motorcycle rallies, the first in 1969, which I don't have any photos of, although I do remember it rained heavily the whole time we were there - it was just a lunch stop before heading over the Pass. This photo and another to come were taken in 1972. LinkFacebookDate Created16th July 2018CommentsMichael Lake I worked there in 1972 with Win Clark and Rod Gutteridge. Rod drove to Wanaka and back (180 miles) for fish and chips. The town was at the beach then. I surveyed the new site at the south bank of the Haast River. It took me 5 goes before I closed the traverse. To this day I never saw a more impressive sight than the Haast River in full flood. The bridge (closed) shuddering from the impact of huge trees, with standing waves (hydraulic jumps)
