DescriptionA Harrington's Brewery one featuring Pukekura which used to have a pub, sawmill and bush crew. The sawmill which was still going 40 years ago when I worked in the bush down that way was owned by "The Colonial Sawmilling and Investment Company".

Stayed in the huts opposite the pub while working in Ianthe forest adout that time. Meals at the pub.

I worked in the mill for 3 years mid 80s. Lived in a mill house on the hill. Uncle Joe Foster lived in the huts. We worked our own bush block behind the mill. 2 days hauling, a day loading and then into the mill for a few days. Leo Williams (RIP) was manager and saw doctor. Robbie Breeze breaking down, Karl Pehi sawyer, me tailing out and Jeff Sweeny docking. Great old sawmill that kept on going. Owned by Williamson family CHCH (William Construction) operating under name Colonial Sawmills.

Many times before and after we lived there, joe was there for a few years. We always stopped there on way home from rugby practice in Harihari. I remember unloading Uncle Digger and Les Hutchison a few times. They were carting out of Ianthe.

We lived there for 9 years Dad worked in Mill and we lived the first house on the hill (gone now) Royce Williams was his boss then. He passed away while Dad worked there.

Had many pub raspberry and lemonades sitting on the steps there. And played with Gladys and Colin. Nice memories. Pearl was my sisters godmother. Everyone seemed to be christened in those days. We lived in the Waitaha Valley at the time.

The brewery label featuring a person i'm sure is Charlie Barlow. He once lived in Hari Hari and was a silver pine cutter working with Earl Chisnall post cutting business. Charlie was a hard working man, also a gentleman.
