Great photo Heather Newby, with Mt Te Kinga in the background. The rail doesn't appear to go beyond the bridge. This photo would have been taken in the 1890's, not the 1880's. Possibly late 1891, no earlier. The Rail was originally meant to cross Stoney Creek (Mallinsons Creek) and follow the West side of Lake Brunner, through Mitchells and onto Inchbonnie where the Rail is now. Because of geographic problems the route was changed, in December 1889, to take a left, after crossing Stoney Creek (Mallinsons Creek), cross the Arnold River a couple of miles on and follow the East side of Lake Brunner, as we know it today.
