Kamaka was originally Twelve Mile Landing being the landing for Grey River boats bringing up supplies for Notown. Later just Twelve Mile when it was an overnight stop for hore drawn wagons that replaced the river trade. Robert Wilson. manager of the NZ Midland Railway Company renamed it Kamaka when his railway built through the township. There were still three hotels then. Wilson changed a lot of old names to Maori owns. Before his time or just upper middle class Engltsh arrogant?Map^[1]ContributorHarley Plowman

Harley Plowman he is my Great Great Grandfather too his daughter Winifred married James Burley.

Is that him by the door?? Mum who was a Burley used to talk about them but to my knowledge I never met any of the Mullins. Strange as it may seem my GG Grandfather on dads side also owned a pub in England and I was able to pour a pint in it a few years ago..

Yes I believe so. My auntie got the photo many years ago from one of the Aynsley sisters who were Timothy Mullins grand daughters.

It was a town and had a port.
My great grandmother came from Cornwall on her own to NZ at the age of 18.
Ship to Lyttelton.
Walked the Bridal Path
Coach to Greymouth
Barge to Kamaka
Horseback to No Town to her two married sisters.
She married and had 10 children, my grandmother the only girl.
My great grandfather had a store at No Town as well as other areas.
He was also a Gold Buyer.
My great grandmother used to transport the Gold to the Bank in Greymouth regularly.
Horseback to Kamaka and then Barge to Greymouth.
It must have been quite a busy port.
