DescriptionThe Mokihinui Hotel has been ruined and its contents pretty well destroyed by raging flood waters after the Mokihinui River swept through it after the river was blocked by several slips caused by the Murchison earthquake. The river backed up causing a huge lake. Seventeen days after the quake the dam burst flooding Seddonville and the Mokihinui village.

My dad told me about that day and that he saw saw a house that was swept away in the flood. He was 16 at the time and I have photos of the earthquake and flood damage that affected our Quinn family.
