DescriptionImmediately in front of the immense landslide, which came down from the cliffs behind, can be seen a portion of what was formerly sea bottom and is now elevated to a height of from 40 feet to 100 feet. It is about 15 chain wide and extends for approximately three quarter of a mile. On top of this interesting formation are hundreds of paua, mussels, crabs and fish.

Myron Caldwell To think my mother and father married in that era and had to walk part of the way back to Westport because of the damage caused by the Murchison earthquake. Made of harder stuff than the modern generation.

Myron Caldwell Dorothy Wills. The biggest difference being; they had huge machines to correct the mayhem., Back in 1929 imagine how many men, picks and shovel, horses and drays were used. Just a minor comparison. lol.

My dad worked in the telephone exchange in Greymouth at the time of the Murchison earthquakes. He told us that they had to note the exact time an earthquake struck. He was in the exchange when the big one struck ran out the door and then clock tower came down over part of the exchange. Somewhere in the family stuff there are post cards thanking for sending details to whoever.
