Anyone think they might recognise where on the Coast this happy photo might have been taken? It looks like it could have been taken in a public park somewhere, and I'm wondering if other families of Coasters might have photos with the same lattice fence in it perhaps... but with the foresight to have recorded when and where.

We understand Rupert Kay may be known by a few Coasters as a writer/reporter and, at this time, was dating Thelma Bragg (daughter of Thomas and Letitia Bragg (nee Hill of Omoto Road, Greymouth)). Certainly I see Rupert's name associated with a few photos within the archives of this facebook page.

Similarly Ginger Keith was dating Thelma's sister Tommie Bragg at this time. Tommie was living and working at McGregor's Drapery at Blackball when this photo was taken, while Thelma Bragg was living with Neil and May McAra on Omoto Road. Bruce Keddie Rupert Kay was the manager of the St James when my mother was cashier there in the early 1960's.

Heather Cullington ...thank you sooo much for that detail. My mother, Beth Funnell (née McGregor) couldn’t remember Charlie’s name, just his nickname, when she identified everyone in this photo. The circle is now complete.

Rupert Kay was the manager of the St James picture theatre when I was a lad in the 60's a right hitler he was too running up and down the aisle with his torch seeking out miscreants, those throwing jaffas etc, how much fun was that
