Dave Lyes Laura Mills Detlaff What Marilyn modestly fails to disclose is her fathers association with Charles Upham VC and Bar. Lifelong friends, and rightly so, forged in combat. (sorry Marilyn, needs to be told)

Dave Lyes Officers were kept seperate from the rest of the men, hence Upham does not appear in this photo.

Ted Preston Marilyn Paterson This photograph is clipped into Gaylene's film 'Home By Christmas' at the point where 'Ed' talks about 'walking up the road' to Switzerland. He, Nutty Davis and Tiger Rattan were assisted by locals to avoid the German troops and cross into Switzerland. Presumably Davis and Rattan are somewhere in this photo. Also Billy Hopkirk from Greymouth is mentioned. Thanks to Dave Lyes (elsewhere in this post) for the info and location of Campo 106/20. On the map Switzerland is not too far away, but it was more like a trek over ten mountains in ten days than just a 'walk up the road'. PS I watched 'Home By Christmas' again today - it's an emotional but priceless experience for me - thanks Gaylene.

Dave Lyes Camp 106 consisted of 25 work camps containing mostly Australians and New Zealanders. Jack Hurren being in work camp # 20 of those 25. Camp 106/20 was located in Salussola, a municipality in the province of Biella in the Italian region Piedmont located 50km North East of Turin and 14km SE of Biella.

Ted Preston Thanks for this info Dave Lyes. If you haven't seen 'Home By Christmas' I think you'd enjoy it - there are several stills clipped into the movie that depict this region. Marilyn's Campo photo is in the movie, at the point just before 'Ed' talks about a 'walk up the road' to Switzerland.
