AddBy: Graham L Schaef30th Apr 2019 9:45PMThis could be Gordon Pettigrew. Gordon used to sell his works from the site he was painting. You can see his works laid out around him. Would the Car/Wagon be an Holden?

About this image
DescriptionMany artists have painted in the Glacier regions? Does anyone recognise this Artist?
Heather and Basil Detlaff replied:
Gordon Pettigrew was an accountant in a ChCh bank. When he retired he traveled through the Westcoast painting scenes and old buildings, etc. He was very independent and would not accept a bed for the night. He slept in, and worked from his car. We have three of his paintings. The most expensive one was $70.00 and was beautifully framed. He has a lovely memorial stone behind the Arthur's Pass Church - it has quite moving words on it. Gordon was a real gentleman. One of his paintings he did for us was at our request. It is of the miners hut featured in P.R.May's" Goldtown" book. The hut belonged to a family member. When he delivered it to us we said could he put smoke coming out the chimney. On the bonnet of his car he lay the painting and with his finger and a dab of paint he gave us smoke!!

Mary Moffitt
Mary Moffitt Whoever he is, he looks like Hardy Browning, who is, of course, a well-known potter. Maybe he painted as well?

Pete Lusk Hardy was a miner at Blackball. When they got laid off the govt sent a potter, Yvonne Rust, to give them a skill. Hardy produced some big casserole dishes. He had sayings from Chaiman Mao written on them like Dare To Struggle, Dare To Win..

Mary Moffitt Pete Lusk Hardy and his wife lived opposite me and since Pottery was all the rage then, I used to buy up his seconds for daily use. I later bought or was given a number of other pieces. He was a great chap, and would make things to order, one amazing one is a colander. Don't use it as that any more but it is great for feeding lots of different coloured wools for making multi-yarned designer items. Heavy enough for the whole lot to stay out while you were working.
His daughter Valda was ahead of me at school.

Mary Moffitt Hardy Browning dressed just like the man in the photograph, and even holds his chin jutted out at exactly the same angle. He was taught by Yvonne Rust. She would have encouraged all forms of art in her classes till her students discovered their strength and niche in the art world. Pic to follow
