Date Created10th May 2019CommentsPhil Olson - Wow if that photo is 1964 the town changed very quickly in the following 9 yrs. I started as an auto apprentice at the VW garage on the left in 1973. It didn't look like that as had been partly burned down and rebuilt just prior to me starting. Brian Howard and Vernon Baty owned it in 73. The plumber shop is just the same today and The big red building was not there in 73. K.A. Bradley panel shop was there . Where the desoto sits was a joinery shop.
Kev Rasmussen - Don't forget old Harry Howard.
Wayne Cannan - Phil Olson was next to what became Overtons Supermarket.
Marilyn Paterson - Phil Olson that place was Hoods shop that became Overtons. Hoods was like Aladdin’s cave to us kids it even had a library.
Bev Freitas - Good photo. The old pub that is now Bradley’s,was Intermans, I think.
John Nancekivell - You're dead right Bev the Shangri-la Restaurant was across the street and the Tab, Heather were you a Greany?
Glenn Johnston - That is how I remember that part of Revell Street as a kid. That is the Dominion Hotel that would have been owned by Zimmerman not Interman. I've double checked and the Dominion Hotel's licensee was Len C. Zimmerman. The licence lapsed on 30th June 1965. After lying vacant for a number of years and being the playground for some of us kids the Dominion was demolished. As already mentioned the site became Keith Bradley's panel beating workshop.
Myriam Schouten - Does anyone know the history of 75 Revell St?? When mum & dad bought it 40 years ago it was run down old flats. It was re-built in 1902 but as what??
Marilyn Paterson - Myriam Schouten, I think it might have been the TAB but there were two big two story houses so not sure. This is quite an old photo as the old hotel is still standing I think it was the Dominion, someone will know.
