DescriptionAlison Hale: Just trying to work out if this was the crash that is refered to in the grey star last night. These are my Grandmothers photos who started the shop at the Inangahua junction, opposite the pub, I was told it was the Duke .... who ran off the road and he is most displeased and the man back on is Norman winstanley (grandfather) and Newman Bros Drivers in the white coats . Grandma Winstanley had the shop built, and the photo was taken in the 1920s perhaps there were two crashes at the Junction as the royallty looks different.?????Date of Photo1920`sMap^[1]ContributorAlison Hale

Annie Swain The Prince of Wales was here in 1920. The Duke and Duchess of York (the future King George VI and Queens Elizabeth the Queen Mother) in 1927 and the Duke of Gloucester in 1934-35. Going by the cars in the photos it is the 1934 visit.

Hello Alison, nice to read this history. My wife, Elaine, was a Southon, and her grandfather was an early settler there with his family of seven. Lyall, Thomas, Rex, Noel, & Garth, two daughters, Muriel & May. So with their families they were well known pioneers of Inangahua Junction.

The cars are Humbers as used for the Royal Tour of the Duke of Gloucester in 1934/35 - the photo does not date from the 1920s.
