Noeline McCaughan Definitely Main street, looking South from Seddon Street. By the 1940's most of those large buildings on the left were gone, leaving open spaces of grass and blackeberry. The two shops on the left with verandahs between the two hotels remained but little else up to the top of the rise, where there was a woolshed, (later converted to a movie theatre) .past that were a couple of cottages and then the Court house Hotel on the corner of Tui Street.

My name isGraham Bishop .Iam from a family of twelve and second street was our home street from 1940to1963 .l a very impressed with your comments about my home town .I live in Nelson but allways with out fail go back Kumara when l come down to the coast .Ihave a good memory from about 1950 onwards about the town but not as good as you .Went to State School 1945 to1953 .IHad a fantastic child hood picking black Berry’s catching crawlies I the creeks ,playing around thee old gold claims exploring caves and tunnels and building huts in the bush .down the zig zag larrikins wherever.Ihad eight sisters and one brother Iwas in the middle ,four each side .Two of my sisters are always commenting about Kumara and the west coast .one is Nova Elizabeth Hichins and the other is Bev Freitas .I hope you find my comments interesting.yours Graham Bishop Bishy.

Noeline McCaughan Bev Freitas Clark. My father was Neville Clark and was Postmaster there for 5 years between 1942 and 1947.I had two brothers Jim and Geoff, and one sister Lynea.

Ruth Walsh When we get together we talk for hours about our lives growing up in Kumara. It holds a special place in our hearts, so many good times, when ever we come back to the Coast, we spend hours in Kumara, including visiting the Cemetery. So many good memories.

Peter Kerr Maye Dunn, I should have been more specific. The quick check on Main or Seddon St is that bump in the road just past Rugg's Family Hotel which itself is another check as is the doorway of the Crown Hotel on the southwest corner of Main and Seddon/Beach road. Seddon St does not appear to ever had a similar bump.
