Frank Winter: Have always loved Lake Kaniere, , visited last year.

ShonaandMurray Marshall: Great photo! I remember going out there to a Mardi Gra, at Hans Bay. We had wood chopping, fireworks on the island, beauty contests. Oh those were the days before we became so PC. Remember Bert Stephens was Compere. He used to say of the fireworks! This is a super fantistical display of exquisite splendour.

My childhood picnic spot. We lived only 10 miles away in Kaniere but it was always a major expedition to go to the lake. Our car's radiator would boil going up Butcher's Hill where you first enter the bush. When we were older we had to get out and walk up the hill. (As a teenager, I biked the whole way. No gears on bikes then.) It was always a relief to enter the bush into the cool, and leave the dust and shingle behind. Then we would compete to see who would get the first glimpse of the lake through the trees.
