Danny Stewart was steam train driver for many years in Reefton
Susan Turland
My father Harry Read also worked there for 30 years, he spent a lot
Of time on top of his shunting job , sweeping and cleaning .when I was very small there were a lot of people working there, in two offices My dad was one of the last to work there, in fact I think the last
One to work there. He loved it and swept with pride the cleaned and tried to maintain the place. I remember being paid pocket money from my dads money to clean the windows with my sister. When the place started to look tired, no one funded it. Nobody actually cared. So perhaps it got a little tired, maybe reasons beyond your mind can work it out.... dad was on a small wage and still managed to keep some small things fixed around the place out of his own money... because he loved the place. In 1991, my dad had just been made redundant from Reefton railway ... after being made redundant he still went biking out and swept the the platform regularly. So in 1991 the trains were automatically being switched through on switch board. Sadly dad was no longer needed. He was then re employed by the railway to meet trains at all times, night and day... boatmans road, over the saddle etc switch the points over manually and go home again. The railways laid a lot of people off.
Susan Turland
Proud of Dad, he loved Reefton Rail way.

So this photo was 1991?...
I will say with much Respect that my father "Mr Joey Momo" worked at the Reefton Railways until his death in 1979. I understand that this photo was 1991, Did you work there? I'm thinking if you did Sir it obviously wouldn't have got so "Scruffy"?
