I spent lots of my child hood in that area... So nice.. My auntie Nancy had a friend who's last name was Ward.... (gosh it has been a few years).... Happy days...

Allanah Turner: Oh my goodness .. thanks for sharing. My Father was stationmaster at Inangahua in the 1960’s .. Mr Bonish was the rail car driverBobbie Johnson My Nana Jessie Boyle used to live in a little white house by the railway station. I remember I was about 4-5 years old which was in 1952/53 but she was there before that and a few years after so would say between 1950 to maybe 1957/58. We moved from Inangahua when I was 9/10 years old which was probably about the time this photo was taken.

Myron Caldwell the Vulcan railcar was great. The guard could walk through and turn the backs of seats so they faced the way you were travelling. Mr Johns and Fox (from memory) were the railcar drivers. RM51 and 52. We went to Reefton for our manual training, and my older siblings went to RDHS by this means, whereas I had a bus to use. Thanks for showing these photos. Brings on the Nostalgia.

Tony Kissell Great photo. My Grandfather, Merv Johns, used to drive the railcars from Westport through to wherever (Stillwater I think) Anyone got any more railcar photos of that period?

Myron Caldwell Tony, I can't recall if your grandfather and Mr Fox used to change cars at Taipo near Reefton or go as far as Stillwater. There they linked with the ChCh railcars which were of the bendy types with Fiat motors.

Pam Mooney I think they changed at Cronadun in the 60s and 70s. My late husband, Tom Mooney, was one of the guards then.

Ian Caldwell Depending on which railcar was late it was either Cronadun or Tawhai.

Myron Caldwell Ian Caldwell Not in my days. Might have for you kids!!!! I couldn't think of the name prior to Maheraiti where they changed. When I went down home to the ISB reunion, Harry Bray, and e steam engine drier and cornet player sat at the Westport station waiting for the railcar. Some ask if he was going to Reefton, got on the phone and arranged a car ride, as they knew someone going up for it.

Back then we thought Westport was a really big town
