DescriptionIn 1953 an aerial ropeway was built at Stockton in the Buller region to bring coal down from mines. When there was renewed demand for Buller coal in the early 2000s, the ropeway allowed production at Stockton to be expanded.

Pam Englefield-Absolum I know what you are saying but I would guess that in another 80 odd years people will say the same things about us and photos of today. And the people of 1939 had it so much better than those of 1860 and so on.

My Grandfather died in Stockton mine in 1927 ,,he was part of a rescue party ,,sadly all four of the party all died ..my Grandmother was left with 6 children ,life must have been very tough , his name was William Maher .
