DescriptionHeather Newby: WHAT DID YOUR DAD TAKE DOWN THE MINE FOR HIS CRIB?
My Dad used to take fish paste sandwiches,meat paste sandwiches, Cornish Pasties,corned beef and pickle and beetroot sandwiches,griddle scones, fruit cake and a thermos flask of tea.He had a green metal crib tin( it was metal so the rats couldnt get into it,) Dad told me that Leslie McKendry`s Dad always had the best lunch and he would share it with other miners at the Dobson Mine.

Leslie McKendry Alaine Bright it was sponges for Dad, he had had his hips replaced back 1968 at Westland Hospital and would cook a couple of sponges for the Nurses and then take them down to Hokitika. The Sponges nearly floated!

Heather Newby Oh my!!! you just reminded me.. Dad used to love beetroot too!!! he grew his own and boiled it and there was always a bowl of beetroot in the fridge.
