Don Hutton: It wasn't too long after this that the United Pavillion on the Rec was burned down.

Linzi Woods: That will be why i don't remember it then .....just the big rec area.

Peter Lambert: Was that almost opposite Marsden Rd on Shakespeare St. . . The newer United pavilion, Marist League pavilion and tennis courts must have been just and idea 60 years ago. I see the Makura Croquet green in place. .

Don Hutton: Yes and no. The United Pavilion was near Marsden Rd. Not sure if it was ever replaced. The tennis courts and croquet green have been there as far back as I can remember - at least 76 years.
Sheila Dixon Yes but bit hard to see. We lived two houses to the left of the high st garage which is almost opposite the croquet ground. There is a small light coloured blob which was Merle Shaw’s shop. We lived next to that. Remember watching the cricket club rooms on the Rec go up in flames. We moved into there round 1957. Cool pic.

Don Hutton: Was it the house formerly owned by the Goodalls? Us boys used to congregate there a lot in the 1940s and early 50s.

Sheila Dixon: Don Hutton if it was right next to and VERY close to John and Mary Dixon’s house (son Kevin) - yes!

Don Hutton: Yes, that's the one. Merle's shop was at the front gate. Spent a lot of time there from age 5 to 16 approx. The Goodalls moved up High St to opposite Kyle's store.

Sheila Dixon: The Goodall name sounded familiar. Dad replaced every board on that house!!!! We moved to Josephine St round 1971
Paul Soster Marist league rooms and Star united rooms not built yet,lived on Shakespeare st opposite school.

Eddie Parsons: The old pavilon on the rec could tell some stories,when it burnt down the rats ran for miles ,a very spectacular fire,had a lot of fun on that ground all types of sport,and some great people coaching me

Miles Reay: The United Pavilion, where I started my rugby-playing days.

Bill Garth: Remember the Fire Station next to the Recreation Hotel. Later Pipe Band Rooms. Garths House was next door to Ford Motors & the Station. We shifted to Alexander Street late 1940s

Carole OConnell: I remember them all

Robin Donaldson: Eddie Parsons reckon the United Cricket team left a fag in there!
