DescriptionJust to remind you fellow Coasters that Thomas Brunner walked the same streets as you and I did. I recently found his grave at Nelson's Wakapuaka Cemetery where he lays in close vicinity to the victims of the Maungatapu massacre and the two victims of the Top House murders near Lake Rotoiti. John Rosanowski His story, "The Longest Journey" very well worth reading.

John Rosanowski Can read more about it online at Te Ara, but is in various books on NZ exploration. It's in eg Ell, Great Journeys in Old NZ.You will find it most interesting on Maori settlements and pre-European life on the West Coast - and in fact one of the heroes of Brunner's story is his guide, Kehu, who deserves to be much better known.

Shona Ratana Many kids swam across to a small rock area from The Sands swimming area in Dobson. I was never brave enough as the current of river too strong Am sure this stone memorial was there.

Pauline Schafer I swam across the river a few times too, but we went with the current so ended up a bit downstream and walked up to Rocky Island.
