Description Alfred's horse drawn cab on the Black's Point to Crushington Road in 1901. Up in the driver's seat are Alfred and Elizabeth with their children Elizabeth, Alfred and Melinda. Standing to the left with the long beard is William Lamberton (Uncle Willie). The other family members in the photograph are probably the rest of the Lamberton family from Crushington. If this is the case, then John and Andrew are standing behind the horses, Isabella is on the extreme left, Agnes is standing next to the cab and John is on the bicycle. The two ladies in the cab could be Elizabeth senior, Hannah or Christina.

Coach man is Alfred Bullen. His father William was from Cornwall and immigrated to Australia - Clunes where John his father who was a mariner with his mates certificate had jumped ship to begin mining. Melinda and William came out to NZ in 1875 and had a family of five. Two boys died young. William was tragically killed in a mine accident 13 January 1876 only 8 months before the birth of his fith child, Melinda Caroline. A year after William's death, Melinda married Peter Brundall and had five more children. A headstone has been erected for William and sons in a small reserve in Reefton. Great photo, William was killed at the Enegetic Gold Mine, Murray Creek.

This photo has stopped me in my tracks. The Lambertons are family ancestors, and Isabella is my husbands grandmother. I have never seen this photo. Don't suppose you have any other Lamberton gems tucked away? The family arrived from in Greymouth from Scotland in 1874. By 1905 several had moved north to Hawkes Bay. They were surprisingly long lived -most lived to a ripe old age.
