DescriptionMy older sister outside in our backyard in Blaketown,1952.

Dad had a big vege garden which was on the left of the path.I remember the brick path used to get slippery in the winter. As we grew older we all had potties in our room because we were scared of going to the toilet at night.You can see the pit toilet in the background.The night-cart man used to come around at night on his horse and wagon.Doc Brown and his wife and family, Jeannie and Brucey Brown used to live in the house over the back.Date of Photo1952Map^[1]ContributorHeather Newby

Remember the nightcart well the night-soil man was Pat O’Connor. One night the nightcart was tipped over by a taxi in the Main Street and the town mayor had to get out of bed to help clean up. There was a notice in the local paper saying that night-soil will not be removed until the cart was repaired. This was in Geraldine South Canterbury.
