Don Hutton: I wouldn't think so Brian McIntyre. It was in Greymouth all through the 1940s. Bloody noisy too!

Brian McIntyre: Might have been on loan. Wasnt there a sister ship too

Don Hutton: Brian McIntyre Don't think so. The Mawhera was moved up to Westport at some stage but don't know the date. I think this has been discussed before. One of the engines is on display in a museum in Westport. The relevant certificates are on display. I may have a video somewhere.

Geoffrey King: The caption date states 1940. The Mawhera a bucket ladder dredge was domiciled in Greymouth then, did not go to Westport until about 20 years later in 1964. The position of a life boat right side of picture will suggest that it is not the Mawhera, the Mawhera lifeboats were positioned just behind the bucket chain wheel, perhaps it is the Maui another bucket ladder dredge operating along with the Eileen Ward out of Westport. It is not the Eileen ward if u care to observe pictures. There is another caption of the Mawhera floating around on recollect which states being in Greymouth but the picture is definately taken at Westport.

Colin J Wilson The whitebaiter looks to be Ron Fox, he was a Fireman on the Maui, and lived near the lagoon where the Maui tied up.
