Date Created15th June 2019CommentsCathy Howat In 1938, my late mother, June Howat (nee Armstrong, from Runanga ) was swimming with some friends off Cobden beach. They got c caught in a rip. Mum helped one girl to shore, then swam out and got another. She could not save the next last 2. One body was found here, at Point Elizabeth, by a search plane from Greymouth, some days later. The other was never found.

Don Hutton Gwen's sister?

Cathy Howat Don Hutton Gwen? Mum was born in 1927.She had 2 brothers Gordon and Graham. Her parents were Dick and Jean Armstrong from Runanga, and owned the Bryandale Mine

Don Hutton Gwen Armstrong went to GTHS with my oldest brother and his wife and would have been born c.1931. I'm not sure but think she was a teacher in Runanga. My sister in law was Myra Hadcroft who also lived in Runanga in the 1940s.

Bill Johnsen Armstrongs lived next door to us in Duncan Street ..they were related ? do remember Ram (Graham ) ..have a photo of an Armstrong either going or coming from war ? in navy uniform and photo
