AddBy: Darcy Kemp13th Dec 2019 4:58PMPlease delete my earlier comment about the location. I can confirm that this is the Greenstone creek, but not at the junction of the Blackwater. The township is Pounamu township (aka Greenstone) . The solid rock formation on the left of the bridge is deceptive and does look similar to that at the junction of the greenstone and blackwater, however the hill in the background and the distance and depth of the buildings in relation to the creekbed are in line with the layout of Greenstone township and the scene there today from the Mitchells side of the current bridge.
Also in the photo (https://westcoast.recollect.co.nz/nodes/view/26180) whichis at the junction of the Blackwater and Greenstone, on the opposite side of the river (where this pic should be taken from, if thats where it is)) there are two outcrops of very solid rock in the pic which do not occur in this picture, yet are physically there today, One has trees growing on it, the other is surrounded by sluiced material and covered in regrowth, but both are positively there. (I checked)
