Glenn Johnston Is that the Dillmans Road? Looks to be the Taramakau River in the photo plus a big area of tailings beyond the road. I think various sludge channels deposited on to that flat adjacent the river.

Maurie McGrath It's the Taramakau river. Not sure if the river was ever dammed. The tailings were sluced via many tunnels under the main Dillmanstown Kumara road. The workings were between Dillmans and Larrikins and the Kumara town boundary.

Glenn Johnston The Taramakau was not dammed. There is a pond or small dam in front of the road at the foot of the picture though.

Noeline McCaughan That's right, I am very interested to see that photograph, it shows (in the centre) the area of spoil that was washed down from the Dillmans gold field, it was a huge amount of debris which came through tunnels underneath the road. Also visible (Lower right)is one of the iron flume pipes which carried water for sluicing from the dam out of the picture and uphill from the right of the scene.

Harold Lee I reckon you are right Maurie and photo could be from up Pug Hill. The foreground seems like the cricket pitch area.

I remember myGrandfather Tom McGrath telling me that the tailings raised the river bed a considerable height can't remember how much but possibly 30 feet.Diane Breeze Would that be what we called Paynes corner.looking down the river into Paynes gully.going down to the and second Salmons around Black creek and up to the old Flax mill peer?
