Gerald Freeman: I knew the Curtis brothers named, real bushmen who could and did tackle anything. Was there another brother?

Dave Perry: The pub with beer before it became the pub with no beer!

John Anderson: That would be a sight to see ,a Model A on balloon Tyers towing a trailer on what looks like solid rubber wheels .Swallowed a few ales in that establishment in my youth ...who remembers on football trips stopping at hotels along Te way and having "a bob in " or was this just a Westcoast tradition .

Dave Perry: John Anderson No way, the Owen, The Lyell, Berlins, The Royal in Westport - they were all on our way.

John Anderson: Dave Perry been in all of them , either sports trips or Savage Club raids.

Dave Perry: John Anderson Forgot Brightwater, Wakefield, Foxhill, Springrove, The Commercial, Hamptons etc.

John Anderson: Dave Perry Gez you must be a bit older than me if you can remember all those .,!

Robin Wiperi: My Curtis relatives lived in newton flat, remember going too a family reunion there as a kid.

Robin Wiperi: My grandmother was Curtis.

Peter Robertson: Yep-days of old! Mentioned the other day when passing"When did the Newton Flat pub close?" Anyone?

John Kennedy: Well the guy who lives there now once told me it closed in the 1950s. I suspect the later part if some of you did actually drink there.

John Anderson: John Kennedy I think the mid fifties would be about right .

Myron Caldwell: i would hazard a guess at early 50's as the Mooneys moved to the Junction where they owned the store, which my parents bought. The Newton pub, known as the "pub with no beer" after the Australian song.

The Pub with No Beer. Lost its liquor license in the days of the Mooney family from memory. Early 50's perhaps.

My mum and dad were friends of people there i think their name was Merhtens.
