Linda Skelton: Oh that is a beaut. The gate opens onto my family land. The view here is looking towards Springs Junction. Hunters road goes up the terrace on the left where the road turns.

Linda Skelton: Blackadders leased the land up to the Maruia Springs.

Linda Skelton: I took a photo just a few weeks ago from just up the road. Showing the top of Dads farm on the right. He gifted the native bush back towards the Maruia plus some money if I recall to get the freehold on the top paddock. Would have been from the original. fence in the old photo above.

Maye Dunn: Oh wow Linda Skelton pretty much the same shot.

John Rosanowski: Not to quibble, but probably better described as the Road to Springs Junction. (Used to drive venison truck in those locales.)

Linda Skelton: Well they might have been going to the springs to "take the waters "as Grandad used to say and they turned round to take the photo.We would have actually said the road to Rahu.

Margaret Stewart: I climbed My Haast once upon a time with some other members of group to which I belonged. It was an awesome outing!
Mark Merriman Margaret Stewart I have also climbed it, several times with my dog. It's a wonderful climb, so steep! Amazing views

Margaret Stewart: Mark Merriman you're so right. I can't remember how high the mount is but the vehicles looked about the size of blowflies. Weren't we lucky to have the ability to do this sort of thing, Mark?

Margaret Stewart: Brian you must have had some awesome experiences while working in the whopwhops!

Mark Merriman: Margaret Stewart I am intending to go up there again later this year, I think (hope!) I have a couple of small ascents left in me. Haast is 1587 metres.

Dorothy Wills: Gosh when you drive the road now the phenomenal growth of the area is amazing.

John Rosanowski: Funny thing is that Thos Brunner climbed a "nearby" peak when passing the through the Inangahua and thought he could see the Canty Plains. Was he up on Mt Haast, one wonders ??

Linda Skelton: I know if you go down the back you end up in head of the Grey. Wouldnt think that he would mistake that but perhaps thought it was a headwate Someone still here may know

Linda Skelton: If a river runs off to the east . There is a lot of tops to get over towards sumner etc

The photograph is actually taken looking west on the straight from the bottom of lockingtons farm. The fence line marks the top of Blackadder and Sons farm. Hunters road goes off on the left at the end of this straight. Springs junction or as it was known then Rahu) is around the right hand corner and down a straight.
