/ Stalags your father was in ?
I’m privileged to have been gifted a rare Red Cross POW camps map from my Grandmother which shows where most NZ soldiers were held during WW11- you’d be welcome to a copy of it if it helped you “join the dots” for your files

Ken Meadowcroft Gary Murdoch after all the years we spent together as kids flum never said a word about his dad in a prison of war camp. ha,ha,ha.

Bruce Knight I thought I had replied but it didn’t show up here for some reason- no doubt my fingers! My Dad was captured in hospital in Athens after almost losing his leg as they were trying to evacuate. After the German occupation, some Greek nurses hid Dad and some other patients in a part of the hospital- which worked up until a German officer made a pass at a Greek nurse and she slapped him on the face, which resulted in a search of the hospital. Dad was in Stalag IX C, a group of camps based around Bad Sulza. Some of the places he was in included Sonderhausen and Springen. The Americans liberated him if 1945, however that part of Germany became the Eastern Bloc as it was traded to Russia. Thanks for the various comments and enquirers about Dad. He lives on in my soul.

Gary Murdoch Peter Fleming, I don't know why it's stuck in my memory but I remember seeing a tiny photo Stan had of a shell exploding near tanks in what appeared to be the Western Desert. But that came after Crete?
It's sad to think of all the stories we could have heard if only we had shown a bit more interest. But as young fellows we had more interest in footy or what went on, was going on, or would be going on, in the bike sheds...!!
