DescriptionAlthough this photo was not taken on the West Coast it does have a strong connection to there. It shows the men fron the New Zealand Forestry Division marching through the streets of London during World War 2. In the front Row, second from the right, is Jim McGuire from Blackball. There is a good chance there could be others from the West Coast in the photo. Andrew Elphick The 2 NZEF second echelon, also a Brigade Group consiting of 21st 22nd 23rd and 28th Battalions, was diverted to Britain on Italy's entry into the war, joining the British VII Corps. Composite elements were formed into an extra brigade, 7th Brigade, to strengthen the invasion defences The second echelon did not reach Egypt until March 1941. This is the First 15th Forestry Unit, England. After this Jim McGuire, in the photo, was transferred to the 14th Unit in Italy. Engineers 2nd Echelon. Geoff Amos, your father could be in this photo.

CANADIAN AND AUSTRALIAN COMPANYS AS WELL.AT THIS TIME THE 15 FORESTRY WERE STATIONED AT LANGRIDGE HOUSE HAMPSHIRE CUTTING DOWN SPRUCE.

NEW ZEALAND PRIME MINISTER AT THAT TIME VISTED THE TROOPS AT LANGRIDGE HOUSE THE TROOPS GOT THE CHANCE TO SEND MESSAGES HOME VIA THE BBC RADIO BUT COULD NOT SAY WHERE THEY WERE CALLING FROM MANY WEST COASTERS IN THI COMPANY

Hi again.
I've confirmed Jim McGuire was in the same unit as my Dad the 15th Forestry Coy so that pictures is of the 15th and I'm pretty sure my Dad is in row 3.
