Geoffrey Bell This photo was taken at Rugby Park in Greymouth in 1937 showing the spectators heading into the Park for the Springboks Match. Those in the photo are West Coast Supporters from Kotuku and from L-R are unknown, Molloy Mears, Jane Bell(my mother) and Colin Bell (my father). The younger person behind Jane is her younger brother Kevin Molloy.

5Colleen Astwood The springbok visited Kaniere school in 1956, played West Coast Buller. My fav. Was a player someone Strydom, can't remember his first name it was so long ago. The excitement when that bus pulled up at the school gate.

Trevor Wylde 1956 missed that tour. Oct. 1955 we took an old Cruiser HMNZS Bellona back to UK for wrecking and picked up the new Criuser HMNZS Royalist. After 8 mths in Plymouth, UK we headed for Malta where we were based for 5mths being invloved with the Suez Canal Crisis . As the Suez was closed we camenhome via Sth Africa.
We came in to Capetown at 8am where are Sth.African Naval Officer came on board to meet our Captain and welcome us there. He looked around and saw our Maoris on board and said to our Capt.

"Tell your natives they can't walk down the samenside of the street as your whites" Our Capt. told him to get off our ship and t hen announced we would be sailing at 4pm. So there 8hrs and no leave. So I remember 1956 very well.
9yrs 8days in the Navy and that was my only bad day the rest were great.
