Very interesting Mary I was born @Grey Hosptiral Dad was a shunter @Stillwater after being transfered from Dunsandel Have a number of his photos of our railway house and of the rows of coal wagons in the shunting yards Remember the tablet system in the station and refreshment rooms and FensomsButchery on the corner My father was on the team who built the tennis courts by the hall (with sprung floor)Dad sent first ball down courts on the day it was opened We also went up to Arnold Siding sawmill on a jigger to get wood for our fireplace.Christina Mitchell

I cannot take the credit for this story. It is what I had heard, because the whole village knew the man who told it, but the author who wrote it was our neighbour Marion Banks, and it was typed by her daughter, Glenda.

What a wonderful story! I always wondered why it was called "Stillwater" ... now I know. Thank you. Just imagine those people turning up for a celebration to change the name of their town and then getting "Dutch-couraged" enough, to let the official gentleman know what they thought of this plan. Just love it! Pity it doesn't happen today!! There are plenty of officials (of both genders) that need to know what we think of their "plans".

And I can vouch for the way Stillwater Creek backed up. In the 60’s on more than one occasion when us Brunner Boys heard the creek was backing up we would risk driving across (so long as water didn’t cover the top handrail) and get to Stillwater Pub ( From memory Keith Prattly was publican) and phone home. “Sorry Mum we’re stuck here and can’t get over Stillwater Creek. I’ll be home sometime tomorrow ). Vaguely great memories of those nights.
