erv Burrell It was used to take the ore down to be crushed and processed in the cynaide tanks at the bottom. I can remember pushing my way with Dad through the scrub to get to the bottom where old Dick Weallans, (he had some great stories to tell about the mine and their exploits ) used to be doing some gold recovery for Bert Cummings who I think had the rights to what was left. That was about 1960ish, a lot of the old buildings were still in the town and the Prohibition site up top was mainly intact although the lower ones built up the side of the hill were burnt down when the mine closed. Used to be a great place to go exploring as long as you kept away from the open shafts, toss a gooly down and wait until it splashed a long way down.
