Ward Street Cobden was where my grandfather George King grandmother Mavis, father Kelvin and uncles Ron, Ivan and Peter, and aunty Patricia moved to, having moved from Methven. My uncle Ron, sadly no longer with us, wrote "We moved into B 360 Ward Street Cobden, as we used for our address, on about 14 May 1942 and left there on about 11 December 1953. I distinctly remember Mavis's first words as we got out of the taxi on a very wet West Coast day - "What a dump! The house was no B360 but we didn't have street numbers in those days. Ward Street was not a through road then. It was in three parts and our house was in the middle part. It became a thru road well after we left and the railway houses would have then received numbers then."

Date Created1st October 2019CommentsPamela Gibb I also lived in Ward Street in house exactly like this one but can’t remember the number, right opposite the shop from 1946 to 1952. Our name was McDougall, McEwens lived next door then Browns. Skelton’s also lived there as well. Lots of memories

Pauline Matene I grew up in 360 ward street, it was right by the lane, Beatties lived at the end of the lane, and our neighbors next door were Royden and Joyce Dixon and their boys and girl. Dunn’s lived next to them. Ours was a Railway house too, we shifted there when I was in standard two, 1958
