Great photo and yes Ron Ferguson.It was a deliberate blast widening the road and making room for where the air fans were tunnelled through into Brunner mine. The first pic was after the actual blast and second pic drilling large rocks by small pop charges to enable loading onto trucks. The outside edge of the road had a tempary barrier of bridge timbers to stop rocks rolling onto railway below. (The Saint) in his hey day.

Graeme Peters The reservoir was up on the hill above this but I think this work took place before the reservoir was built the fan for the Dobson mine was next to this rock on the wallsend side

Peter Cruse. Well there is a name of forgotten for a very long time. You drove the lowloader for a few years. Remember you shuttling various xozers to the Ahaura railway station when Ferguson's were building the very big stop bank and hook groyne on the grey river. Was a battle to compete with a rising river David. Joe Foster, Graham Liner, Mannix Name Ron myself ( on the scraper) great to know you still around Peter. Loved seeing your name and comment. are you sure ? this looks to me to be the widening of the road at the Dobson bluff where the fan was situated for Dobson mine. rail worker Bobby Dobbin was killed by rocks from that blasting
