John Rosanowski When the Burgess-Kelly gang arrived in Greymouth, their leader Dick Burgess took this ferry across to hide out in Cobden. Meantime Kelly and Sullivan had a drinking binge in the Provincial Hotel. Later in the evening they went across in the ferry to meet up with their gang leader. Kelly, well sloshed by this time, slipped and fell into the ferry bilge. His facial injuries are part of the evidence that he took no part in the murder of George Dobson - carried out by the Informer, Sullivan.

Don Hutton They were pretty clever at building bridges even in those days.
