Date Created7th November 2019CommentsMyron Caldwell where was Hard Creek mill. I can't place a Hard Creek. I do recall the "snig" horses and used one getting 'pit props' for the coal mines. I recall mills around the area but none by this name.

Myron Caldwell Sorry folks. I had just looked at Google Earth and find the mill was at Melletts farm inland from home at Inangahua. I had never heard of being referred to, but even Google know more of my district than I did. Mind you that was way back last century, so perhaps I have an excuse. HaHa.

Myron Caldwell To add to my mistakes, I had sometimes got metal from the riverbed to spread on George Mellets farm roads. Our boss always warned to never take anything other than a cuppa when invited by Mrs Mellett. She used to make 'home brew' and 'honey mead' and both were dangerous in the middle of the day. She was known to say that she voted for :prohibition: at election day voting. Then she went home and made her own intoxicating liqour. They travelled everywhere by horse and gig. I can't recall the name of the chesnutt, but it spent some time outside the Junction pub waiting for old George to rehydrate. lol.
