Lyn Moe: I think they all had there share of gas Heather Newby the yr before Blaketown man Fred Fauth got badly burnt in his mine at the 10 mile Bell bird mine. He never worked it again but it was worked by others.

Heather Newby: i think he was the guy who lived across the road from us in Blake street.. Mickey Fauth and his sister ... Noeline(?) Fauth ...maybe Fred was their Dad?

Lyn Moe: Heather Newby I was in contact with daughter Noeline who lives in chch ,yes Fred was their Dad. He was an Australian know as Mulga.

Heather Newby: Dad told me he was shit scared of the Coast road coalmines because of the gas..too gassy.. strongman,, pike river.. etc

Heather Newby: I loved the Fauth`s house.. lovely leadlight windows and noeline was so nice
.

Heather Newby: in my Geological nz book it says the coast road,, including pike river.. coal is 70 million years old because that part of the land rose first.. then Dobson coal is 40 million years old.. thats why strongman and pike river coal was really sought after.. "hard as" coal.

Heather Newby: Lyn Moe great photo.. when did he die? I can only remember Mickey and Noeline..

Heather Newby: Dad told me if you leave a lump of of Huntly coal outside for a year, it will disintegrate but if you leave a lump of strongman coal outside.. it will last forever.

Lyn Moe: not sure when he died,

Heather Newby: must have been early 60`s.

Lyn Moe :It is probably in my book but I cant remember, your probably right. Arthur a brother who had the trucks probably went there too.
