Deb Ramage: Geez , at the age of 6 -8, went from Stoke to Greymouth, alot of the road was uneven and we went via Westport. I think it took 9 to 10 hours to get there. They did have sheepskin seats but, posh. Around 1970.

I think they got out and pushed sometimes to get through muddy areas. Saw some photos somewhere of this. Our uncle Alf Agent (OKIDOK)was his nickname was a driver for Newman's in the open cars/coaches.

Newman's had the contract for the Royal Mail...so they ran every wk day if they could...and so always had income plus paying public...But should be remembered better than they are by Nelson ...a coach an some buses hidden away at founders...
