Amazing place to grow up. That coalmining centre was amazing for its community care. Were we the only place in New Zealand to have a free doctor for every person in the five settlements? Paid for by the miners!

Patrick Casserly: Albert Pickering gave sister Carol and me down the Wallsend mine it was scary going down in a Cage we had owe rain coat on brother jim work at the bottom of the shaft they had raincoats on all day I think when Dobson mine caught fire the Dobson miner transferred to Wallsend nine temporary tell Dobson open a again

Brent Duggan: Pat, I remember Albert well as a little one as he was a good family friend. I am having trouble remembering his wife’s name but she was such a lovely lady. The drowning of their son John in the Grey River at Dobson was so sad.

Don Hutton The more I look at this the more I think it's not Brunner unless the view is eastwards towads the Southern Alps. The mountains in the background don't look like the Paparoas. What is the settlement over the ridge on the far side of the river? Runanga? Just doesn't look right but I'm happy to be corrected.

Laura Mills Detlaff Isn't Tayorville in the foreground, looking towards Wallsend, and tucked in the back Stillwater?

Don Hutton If that's Stiwater beyond the ridge then the photo is looking towards the Alps and I'm wrong! But I'm still puzzled. Maybe the photo is reversed?

Don Hutton I wonder if the township on this side is actually Taylorville (Tom Hartill?) looking across the Grey River to Wallsend (?) then over the ridge to Stillwater and beyond to the alps. Modern aerials appear to support this possibility.

Dianne OBrien Definitely from Taylorville side as you can see the rec and hall also school and my aunts house

Patrick Casserly You can see the Wallsend mine and the catholic Church the Brunner workingman cub my be but not sure it was built then

Sandra Sands Must have been taken from the top of the rifle range back of Taylorville . I can't remember being able to see stillwater tho. Come on Don Harthill we used to spend a lot of time up there when we were kids

John White That’s been taken from a plane. Too high for anything else. Taylorville in foreground. Swing bridge over to Wallsend & yes that’s Stillwater over the back. Can see our place opposite the school and you can see the old schoolhouse as well as the new one. Great picture. Homesick for a swim across to Wallsend Sands.
