DescriptionDarrell Latham said - Originally a 3 ton spring wheel McLaren Traction Engine used for much of the heavy haulage in the Reefton district.
Enthusiasts recovered the dismantled machinery alongside Mossy Creek near Hukarere.
This photograph bears testimony to their skill and endeavour.

Date Created14th November 2019CommentsPeter Kerr Name from the original Canterbury boiler inspection records show the name is "The Maori" as on its nameplate. Several McLaren engines imported around the same time had Maori names. All sprung wheel McLaren traction engines, as this one originally was, were known as Waltzing Matildas.
