Maye Dunn Rose Nolan thinks it is about 57 or 58.

Rose Nolan I was with grandfather Dinny Nolan when he cut the ribbon. Dinny died 1958. Photo is possibly dated around that time. Work continued at Clarke Bluff long after. The ribbon, and very deep wet slushy clay condition of the road being my only memory

Margaret Mckee Hi, my father, Bob Russell was foreman for Cummings Earthmoving at Haast. They did most of the bluff work on the Haast side of the Haast /Wanaka road. We were based at Haast Beach From 1950/59. The men worked long hrs and 6 days a week. When looking at photos you can tell there was no OSH around back then

Peter Robertson Still working on it in March 1960.Drove through the riverbed. The pass was opened in November 1960. Not to be confused with the Haast Highway which opened in 1965 (Nov also)
