John Hunt I remember the introduction of the railcar being a huge step up from steam train trip to the Coast. Stillwater was my destination then bus to Blackball. Did the trip many times.
Glenda O'Donnell Well my father cleand that Vulcan railcar
Trevor Wylde If that was Dec 56 I could have been in it as I arrived home on leave from the Navy after being overseas for 14 mths being involved with the Suez Crisis. Dad picked me up and off to the Kopara we went via Ngahere and Nelson Creek pubs.
Dennis Gibbs Trevor Wylde good welcome home!
James Codyre Ngahere had the Railway Hotel(Top Pub) and the Ngahere Hotel(Bottom Pub) in those days.Think Jack Wilde drank mainly in Ma Swettie's in those days.

Trevor Wylde Dennis Gibbs Yes Dennis was great to be home arrived Auckland 21st Dec. and South Islanders were sent off on leave first so we got home for Xmas.
Trevor Keith Scott Good on you Trev, learnt that life is for the LIVING!!
Dennis Gibbs Trevor Wylde :) was principal at Moonlight and Ikamatua in the 1970s, knew that area quite well back then. Used to coach 2 kids league teams and would pick kids up as I drove them into the games. Including kids from, Ahaura, Nelson Creek and Ngahere on the way. Played for Waro Rakau myself, as did the kids.
James Codyre Ngahere had the Railway Hotel(Top Pub) and the Ngahere Hotel(Bottom Pub) in those days.Think Jack Wilde drank mainly in Ma Swettie's in those days.
Trevor Wylde James Codyre You would be right and Nelson Creek was his watering hole also
Bert Pulman He would have stopped at both the top and bottom pub
Stuart McMillan Looks quite a new Railcar
Phil Millar It's the 2nd generation Railcar called the Vulcan, the Fiat was the 3rd and final one but much longer.
Rhonda Glasson Definitely remember both pubs at ngahere
Don Hutton Fabulous railcars. Best ever! Stillwater had a nice pub, a springy dance hall and the lovely Moffitt girls!
Mary Moffitt Don Hutton Oooooh Don, I didn't know you cared.
Don Hutton Mary Moffitt Always had a soft spot for y'all.
Phil Millar Iv'e never ever seen a Railcar ,towing a carriage,i had a 2nd look at this picture, amazing!
Mary Moffitt Phil Millar I think that it is a double unit, although the roof looks a different colour.
Phil Millar Mary Moffitt Could be!
Mary Moffitt Phil Millar Yes, the unit we are discussing is the leading unit too.
Bryce Smith Great service.
Mary Moffitt I think that this railcar is going towards Greymouth, because of the side of the station it is on. We are looking at the end of the unit. Both ends look the same with driving controls at both ends.
Behind the railcar are the goodsheds. To the left is the Citroen car belonging to Dick Henham who ran the Refreshment Room.
Paul Huffam The railcar in background probably had just been cleaned!
Mary Moffitt Paul Huffam True, never thought of that!
Robin Spillane caught this so often back in the late 50,s early 60,s.
Monica Harvey Rode that many a time
Ellen Nankivell Always loved the journey to the coast in the rail car!!!
Frank ODonnell We went to Christchurch and back in the 70s
Lois Iacoppi Remember it well was on it a few times
John White That was the start of our Christmas holidays. Every year we’d take the railcar to Inangahua, wait at the pub (raspberry & lemonades) for Newman’s bus through to Murchison & on to Nelson. Usually left that Raspberry drink down the side of the bus getting through Lyell.
Myron Caldwell John White. You should have popped across road to our shop and we could have given you paper bags to avoid puking raspberry drinks onto Newman's buses.
