Date Created24th December 2019CommentsSheryl Locke It's a shame that the skipper didn't do his homework. He should not have skippered that boat.
He said no one's fault.
It's 100% his fault
David Thompson-Dawson I started my fishing career on this boat out of greymouth sad to see it's working career ended like that....
Jamile David Whyte Skipper should be charged with careless use and be made to pay the salvage costs
Jonny Hewison That looks far out its almost at the dunes !!!!

Colin Waterman Debbie Jane was built in lyttleton by Sinclear and Melbourne around 1965
Ann Knipe Colin Waterman was the Lady Dorothy built at the same time.
Colin Waterman Ann Knipe Lady Dorothy was built Auckland by lidguards. Basil brought in new around 1970
Colin Waterman Here it is 1967 Jacksons bay. My father took this picture.
Tony Western Colin Waterman I new one of the families that fished out of Jackson’s bay 50 yrs ago and can’t remember there surname.
The lady Jane sounds familiar and wondered if they owned it. I know they had a house in Chch and the father and son were at the bay
Colin Waterman Tony Western Wayne page, that name rings a bell from my father for lady jane back then, its now in westport.
Melanie Galbraith I thought I had seen her in Grey
Sarah Tuahine Did she used to be blue?
Colin Waterman Sarah Tuahine yes blue wheelhouse
Hails Long Colin Waterman two toned blue too
Margaret Cairney My late husband, Brian Cairney used to fish on this boat. Doger Kroening was the skipper.
Teri-anne Bell My cousin Debbie Jane named after the boat ... her grandfather is Doug Aitken and her mum Nova Aitken/Colville
Barbara Fitzsimmons Went to school with Nova .she was beautiful .wagged school to go horse riding with mouse Mcann. I still think of her .never forgotten
Tracy Piner Mahon Basil Piner had the Debbie Jane, he named it after his first grandchild Debbie Jane Piner, he also had the lady Dorothy, which he named after his first Wife Dorothy Chadwick Piner - née Lane, he brought the Lady Dorothy, which was originally called the southern seas-he changed the name, to nanas name.
Trevor Keith Scott Old Basil used to come into Mum & Dads shop (Scott Marines) on the Quay, then him and Dad would go next door to the Pub, next to Bouchers food market. BrianBrew I think it was ( Spelling ?)

Sharon Griggs Brendon Griggs
Simon Ashby Omg Murray I'm remember this and me and you paint it and water blast it too..for your father basil...very hard boss old basil....
ly
Raymond Henry Kelly He grounded it on purpose the news said. Only had a compass and the sea was rough. Idiot panicked my old school fisherman father reckons. By the way I've seen my father awake for 36 hours in Gail force weather with only a compass. 32 foot boat.
Bevan Pringle Basil Piner was a great man came up to the Charleston pub in the 1985 etc bring my fish for the pub had his caravan out the back stay the night play the pokies and enjoyed his beer his lady allso was with him not sure of her name I can remember both of those fishing
Byron James Krammer Absolute shame that it was yacking with Jeremy in Timaru not even a week ago, Though she was rough was still a good boat. Run a ground on purpose I know crew that couldve handled that better what a fucken idiot I say but he doesn't care he didnt own the boat.
Sheryl Iraia The Debbie Jane had a sister ship the Red Witch it was built first. One of them was built by JD Robb in Timaru. Remember my Mum Dorothy stepping back and falling into the water at the christening.
Colin Waterman Sheryl Iraia Red Witch was built by JD Robb, sounds like an entertaining christening

Tracy Piner Mahon Sheryl Iraia omg , how awful for her, ! So loved nana, she was such an amazing, lady! Still can remember her giggles! Miss her so much! Loved our family get togethers, good times!
Sheryl Iraia Colin Waterman I think in hindsight it was the Debbie Jane's christening.
Peter Silcock When you stop to think how many times she would have crossed the Grey bar and yet ironically comes to grief on a flat shallow beach.
Sheryl Iraia Peter Silcock Sad
Peter Mitchell I read the stories about this boat. The skippers first outing in 16 years??? It was bad weather that was the problem???? I'd have thought that if leaving the origonal port was so bad due to the conditions, the trip should have been abandoned.
Christine Burn My son in law worked on this boat some years ago. He is feeling very sad
