The lad in the middle is C Marsh who later went on to become an amateur light heavy weight boxing champion and then became an owner and trainer.The horse is "Parl", the winner of the Kumara Racing Club`s feature race, when the gold nuggets were first competed for in 1931.Parl was owned and trained by Mr T Cameron.

Heather Newby is that Tommy Lalor, the butcher in Blaketown?

Mary Fenemor Yes ,Lived with His Mother out in South Beach, for Years.Trained Horse at Victoria park, with Super, and Toms Brother, Jimmy, Trained His Horses ,from Reefton.

Heather Newby Dad worked for Tommy for a few years after he retired.. delivering meat.. and I think my brother worked at his shop for a while. James Newby

Dennis Wick Geoffrey King I remember that horse Firpo, it used to be ridden by a Sth. American jockey by the name of Tito Phoblete not sure about the spelling but made a few Bob of Firpo, I think David Walsh rode Firpo at times too.

Geoffrey King The name David Walsh rings a bell....Yes I think a few people made money off following Firpo I know my mother did. I think the colours were green with a brown Maltese cross or vice versa.

Phil N Deb Campbell Maggie Riordan my dad was Kevin he was the younger brother of Tom Jim and Margaret. They lived in south beach up on the hill.

Ray Port Cliff named his horse,Firpo, after Argentine champion boxer Luis Firpo a man Cliff looked upto when he was NZ boxing champ.

Ray Port Towards the end of Firpos racing career his trainer Tom Lalor bought Firpo from Cliff because he had grown such a strong connection to the horse he decided to retire the horse in his care at his stables and Firpo saw his days out as Tom's helper at his Riccarton stables.

Vera Egli These are distant relatives . Mary Lalor was my grandmother from kumara.
