Lyn Moe Well it could be he was into bikes, do you know what age he would be back then.

John Thomson Wow, bike on the right looks like a Triumph side-valve single. Probably A 500cc. A 1920s model. You can see the dynamo slapped in the front like an afterthought. The sidecar could be a Swallow, that is the company that evolved into Jaguar. The other bike is a later pre-war BSA. Possibly a B26. I love these photos.. thanks for posting!
