Niaouli Wolf It was damaged badly in the big flood in the 50’s. The rails were hanging mid air.

Lynn Turnbull She told me lots of things ... a thing she told me that you cant imagine was a family down the road had 2 young boys who went down to blaketown lagoon to play ...got stuck in mud and tide came in ... there was a knock on the family's door and a man just said I've got your boys out side ... the mother went out thinking they had got a ride home and the two boys were both dead on the back of a horse and cart .... omg

John Paget Fred Pamment my father in laws nieghbor at Whatroa drove these. He attended my wedding in 1979 he must have been ninty at least. But still a great bloke.

Glen Surgenor My grandfather drove the A Hall coach.

Mike Minehan Our grandfather, Michael ( Mick ) Minehan, born 1879 in Ross, who farmed in Bright St., Cobden, told me about a trip of his. Where the gentlemen sitting upstairs had to "alight" and ease the load on the way up the hill. That the leading outside horse almost went over the bank on some of the hairpin bends! No place for sufferers of vertigo!

Dorothy Wills Would have been a hair raising journey was still pretty scary until a few years ago now when they stared improving the road

Kathryn Ward My grandmother Elsie Cropper travelled over the Otira in a stage coach. Said they had to walk down the hills to make it easier for the horses.

Bruce Baxter This bridge lasted until the 1980's then rebuilt with steel I beams instead of wooden piles , a concrete cap and the same steel spans .
