Paul Galbraith Yip, I agree, root vegetables is one I've been told of - they dislike the aroma coming from the skin. I noticed one summer that the native bees stayed away from ginger beer and beer but swarmed to lemonade and coke.

Linda Skelton If you lived there they would bite you but you had no reaction. i recall babies with big welts where they were bitten,the muslin must have blown aside and the blighters got in. We used to say they loved a bit of new blood.

Linda Skelton jeys fluid and vinegar is one deterrent used.

Elaine Barrow Percy barrow died in June 1930. Just to give us an idea of date

Anne Addy Elaine,I have been wondering, I have a photo of Percy and one of the other men by themselves, I thought it was his brother Charles but on seeing photos of Charles dont think so, and ,after trying to find out more about Charles I found out that he actually died on 12/5/1925,Dungog,NSW. He had died in his sleep after being 6 mths in Australia, he was a guest of his sister Emma at her Courthouse Hotel ...After mining in NZ he had contracted Miners Complaint,which brought about his demise..he was a man of quiet disposition,he died aged 43 yrs..Charles twin sister was Florence Barrow who married Donald Black.

Elaine Barrow My sister and I have discovered a cousin on my father's side that we never knew existed si have been having lots of conversations about that side of our family. Talk about skeletons!!

Elaine Barrow Percy died of the same problem. He went to new ?dungog the year before he died for treatment at a sanitarium .he was 42 . Not very old!
