Owen Winstanley Hi. Admin. I have a friend who is the son of W Bond in the photo and he would like to know more about the source of the photo. He was very young when his father died as a relatively young man and he is trying to find out more about his time in Blackball. Reference is made to "The Blacball Line" and Susan Clarke. Is it possible to provide more details, please.

Owen Winstanley My friend was not aware his father had played league while he was in Blackball even though he came from a league stronghold in England before emigrating. His forte was football (soccer) and was apparently very good. He moved to Christchurch to play for the Sunnyside Hospital team and in 1926 was in the team that won the Chatham Cup, the premier competition in NZ at the time. Many of the immigrants to Runanga and Blackball and other mining areas were very good at football and the West Coast team in the 20's and 30's was particularly strong. I believe they had excellent results against touring teams from China and Canada. My great uncle Alf Winstanley was a Coast rep around that time.
