The Goldsborough Brass Band Circa 1902

DescriptionThis photo is provided by descendants of Rocco Beban born Tunnel Terrace Goldsborough 1889. Grandson Martin Beban and Grand daughter Karyn Beban (Brown).

Rocco Beban is the young guy with the fife just to the right of the big drum. His brothers Dan (Donally) B. 1876 and Jim (James) B. 1885 are in the back row respectively 3rd and 2nd from the right.

They are the sons of Stephanus and Catherine Beban whom lived with their 11 children at Tunnel Terrace, Goldsborough from around 1866 to 1916

The cool Johnny Depp look alike in the middle is the band master Frederick Martini (I have established this from the comments by Marcia Martini on another post of the Stafford School Committee).

I'm unsure of date or the occasion. Others may help with this and the identity of others. Thank

The bandmaster wearing glasses damaged his eye by accident in 1899: https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/new.../ODT18990512.2.59...: At Stafford, West Coast, last week, Mr Frederick Martini, while cleaning his gun and preparing cartridges, came to a cap winch appeared,to be defective, and threw it in the' fire. A minute later it exploded, and the- • cap anvil flew out, striking his left eye. which has been -totally destroyed. The sufferer is a young man with a family of four- small children. Mr ■ Martini is bandmaster of the ' Goldsborous?h Brass Band.

CommentsRebekah Fairhurst Geer Fantastic pic!the band master Frederick Martini is suave.. how cool they all look.. worked on the goldsborough track for the forest service, wonderful place, used to collect clay from the creek bed, excellent for pottery. Actually very good quality. Found lots of great old bottles etc connected to possibly some of the chaps in this pic.. thanks for posting, memories galore

Alex McDougall Frederick Martini is my Grandfather and I still have the baton that he is holding in his hand. Seriously cool looking bloke. Love to have met him.
