Never went to night trots But went to the races sometimes. Brother Pat and I were always hoping we would fine a discarded ticket to cash in? Had to stay away from Dad But be waiting by the car when races finished for the car ride home.

It was wet. It was windy. It rained all night. Victoria Park and from Reefton we did not know if the meeting would be on. As we came to Ngahere - yes, it's on. The ladies had stayed home but had given us some selections and Big Brother Brian said he would sort them out. Last race over, a brief stop at the Ngahere Hotel (Balderstone proprietor?) and then home. Ladies had a blazing fire going. We entered the lounge and Brian threw hundreds of dollars up in the air. What a night!! Never forget it, though, sadly, some of the main players have passed away.
